How to play Connections
Connections gives you 16 words. Your job is to sort them into four groups of four, where each group shares something. The catch is that many words look like they fit more than one group.
The rules
- 1Select four words you think belong together and submit them.
- 2If all four share the hidden link, the group is solved and its name is shown.
- 3If not, you lose one of your four mistakes. If three of the four were right, the game tells you you're one away.
- 4Each group has a color that shows how direct its link is: yellow is the most straightforward, then green, then blue, and purple is usually the trickiest, often wordplay.
- 5Solve all four groups before your mistakes run out to win.
Tips for solving
- Look for words that could fit two groups. Those overlaps are where the puzzle tries to catch you.
- Solve the group you're most sure of first. Every solved group removes four words and makes the rest clearer.
- Purple groups are often about the words themselves: hidden words, homophones, anagrams, or a word that can go before or after each one.
- Say the words out loud and try them with common prefixes and suffixes.
- If you have five candidates for one group, work out which one also fits somewhere else.

The next hint shows one word from each group.
After that you can reveal the four group names, then each group's words one color at a time.
